Great bicycle chain padlock

I have a lock identical to this but it is with a flat key mechanism. I had been using it with a 3 foot long 8mm case hardened chain to lock my “grocery getter” cruiser bicycle. This setup is for medium to high security as the bicycle doesn’t have quick release hubs or a QR seatpost clamp. The problem is the nagging possibility of misplacing my key and I don’t like pre- set combinations because you can forget them. I have had set your own combination locks before but they were always with numbers- this is set by your choosing a four letter word. No, you can’t set it with THOSE four letter words, haha.

This lock is very stout and it’s style I have read is one of the harder to defeat by cutting, leveraging or smashing. Out of the package it’s dials were a bit stiff to turn but a few drips of Lock-eze freed them up. A bit of spray silicon lubricant works well too. Some set your own combination locks- especially padlocks are easily defeated by hand picking as many YouTube videos will attest but this shrouded style seems exempt. Buy this lock then get a little chuckle everytime you open it with the combination word DUCK or TOAD.

Secure but difficult

Our business has at least three of these locks, and they are difficult to open/close. They hardly ever open on the first try. One must move the letters around a little to get them lined up just right (although they look perfect). At least mine are indoors. I would not want to be standing in the rain getting aggravated at the stuck lock.

If you like cutting locks, buy this one

I am in the storage industry and deal with locks on a daily basis. I have never had so many problems with a lock before. I ordered one just to see how they worked and I am glad I only ordered one. I first had to lubricate the dials for them to move and then I had to use a hammer to beat the lever down to open it. I even spoke to the manufacture about becoming a dealer, that isn’t going to happen. Great idea, but you may want to go back to the drawing board.
